The Problem
Every single credit card transaction takes about 3% from you or your retailer including the the tip you give your server.
Credit card companies spent over - $40 million in 2024 to influence our political process - and they have already received a return on investment. Under the Trump administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has removed an $8 cap on credit card late fees which was projected to save consumers $10 billion this year.
These revised, staggering late fees impact your bottom line. Credit card companies lobbied your representatives to negatively impact you.
$40 million invested to make $10 billion – that’s a hell of a return you had to finance.
The Act
Quit using credit cards and use cash or checks for as many transactions as possible.
You can still use your credit card when necessary. How many credit card commercials have you seen? How many celebrity endorsements? The companies have invested heavily in your use of their product.
If you can use good ol' American legal tender, do that. If not use a check or ACH (e-check), or a debit card. Your last resort is using a credit card.
Encourage your friends to invest in local retailers and retail workers while you invest in yourself and your community.
The Outcome
If we as Americans reduce our credit card usage by just 10% we can collectively save ourselves around 30 billion dollars. They invested in authoritarianism to make $10 billion, but will loose $30 billion – a bad investment. This the power that We the People easily wield.
